The Proposal 2: The Takeover (2026)

Starring: Sandra Bullock, Ryan Reynolds, Mary Steenburgen Genre: Romantic Comedy Tagline: “The only thing harder than faking a marriage is surviving a real one.”

The Power Couple

It has been seventeen years since the visa debacle, and Margaret Tate (Sandra Bullock) and Andrew Paxton (Ryan Reynolds) have defied the odds. They are no longer just employee and boss; they are the co-CEOs of Paxton-Tate Publishing, a global media empire. They are the definition of a “Power Couple”: wealthy, influential, and completely exhausted.

Margaret is still the high-strung, killer executive who terrorizes interns, while Andrew has evolved into the sarcastic, tired peacemaker, trying to balance Margaret’s global ambitions with raising their cynical, tech-addicted twin teenagers. Their marriage works like a well-oiled machine, but the romance has been buried under board meetings and quarterly projections.

The Threat

The empire is jeopardized when a soulless tech conglomerate, led by a millennial billionaire who thinks books are “vintage content,” launches a hostile corporate takeover. Margaret faces the terrifying prospect of losing the only thing she has ever truly owned: her legacy.

The only way to save the company stock and fend off the buyout is to secure the publishing rights to the memoirs of Bear Grylls-esque recluse and literary genius, Elias Thorne. Thorne has been hiding in the mountains of Sitka, Alaska, for decades and notoriously despises “corporate elites.” He will only sell his story to “real, salt-of-the-earth people.”

The Ruse: Reverse Psychology

Desperate, Margaret hatches a plan that is even crazier than the first movie. She and Andrew must return to Sitka, dragging their horrified teenagers with them. But there is a catch: to win Thorne’s trust, they have to ditch the Gucci suits and private jets. They must pretend to be a humble, struggling couple who “lost it all” and have returned to Alaska to live off the land.

Return to Sitka

The family arrives in Sitka, where Grace Paxton (Mary Steenburgen)—now the wise and slightly eccentric matriarch filling the void left by Gammy—welcomes them. Grace finds the scheme hilarious and agrees to help, but only if Margaret actually does the chores.

The comedy ensues as Margaret, a woman who hasn’t done her own laundry in two decades, tries to chop wood, gut fish, and pretend she knows how to operate a wood-burning stove. Meanwhile, Andrew has to keep their twins from livestreaming their “poverty” to TikTok, which would blow their cover instantly.

The Emotional Core

As the lies pile up and the physical slapstick reaches a breaking point (involving a moose and a very small tent), the facade begins to crack. Stripped of their wealth and status, Margaret and Andrew are forced to look at who they really are. In the freezing cold, without their assistants and schedules, they rediscover the spark that brought them together in the first place.

The Proposal 2: The Takeover brings back the rapid-fire banter and physical comedy that made the original a classic. It proves that while money can buy a company, it can’t buy the kind of loyalty that survives an Alaskan winter.
