MORBIUS 2 (2025)

Movie Review: Morbius 2 (2025)

Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3/5)

The “Living Vampire” returns in Morbius 2, a sequel that doubles down on gothic spectacle and Marvel-style mayhem, while still wrestling with the flaws that haunted the first film.

Jared Leto reprises his role as Dr. Michael Morbius, who continues to grapple with the monstrous powers that saved his life but cursed his soul. The sequel raises the stakes by introducing a new, more ancient vampire rival whose arrival threatens not only Morbius but the fragile balance between humanity and the supernatural.

Action is where the film shines. High-speed aerial battles across the New York skyline, brutal hand-to-hand combat in dimly lit catacombs, and a blood-soaked showdown in a crumbling cathedral all deliver visceral thrills. The CGI has been polished since the first outing, making the bat-like transformations and supernatural effects far more convincing.

Narratively, Morbius 2 tries to lean into themes of redemption and control. Morbius struggles to embrace his darker side without losing what remains of his humanity. While some emotional beats land, others get buried under uneven pacing and dialogue that sometimes feels more melodramatic than meaningful.

Supporting performances help elevate the film. The introduction of a mysterious vampire hunter adds tension and worldbuilding, while hints of crossover with other antiheroes in Sony’s Marvel universe tease bigger things to come.

Visually, the movie finds its stride in horror-inspired sequences. Flickering shadows, chilling sound design, and gothic set pieces give the sequel a stronger identity than its predecessor.

Verdict:
Morbius 2 is a step up in style and action, but it still struggles to fully sink its teeth into the emotional depth it aims for. Fans of the first film—and those craving dark, supernatural superhero action—will find plenty to enjoy, but skeptics may walk away unconvinced.
